Clinton Asay, MHC-LP, CASAC

Therapist

Clinton is a Mental Health Counselor who specializes in addictive disorders and trauma, specializing in a harm reduction, non shaming approach. Clinton has experience working with diverse clients and approaches therapy with curiosity, warmth, and an authentic interest in the lives of others. He has a strongly held belief that meaningful change happens when folks are supported in their self-discovery, recognizing that they are the expert in their own experience. Clinton utilizes a trauma-informed, integrative approach, drawing from behavioral, family systems, and psychodynamic theory. He rejects the traditional notion of the “blank slate” in therapy and encourages an interactive and collaborative approach to emotional work.

Clinton earned his dual Master’s Degrees in Mental Health Counseling and Forensic Psychology at John Jay College and has worked in various settings including inpatient/outpatient substance use treatment, inpatient psychiatric, and supportive living. In addition, Clinton is a credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC-master level) and a Recovery Coach (CARC).

I strive to create a safe space for exploration with the steadfast understanding that the foundation of good therapeutic work insists upon a strong and healthy therapeutic alliance. I additionally have extensive experience in case management, allowing me to connect clients to care and support.
